The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The Lord is good to all, and His mercy is over all that He has made. ~Psalm 145:8-9
Nehemiah records when the children of Israel were assembled together, that the Levites stood and began to bless the name of the Lord. (Nehemiah 9:5) They said of God, “So You made a name for Yourself, as it is this day.” They continued to extol the name of the Lord emphasizing His faithfulness; noting that even when God’s children “refused to obey” and “were not mindful of Your wonders,” still God was with them. “But You are God, ready to pardon, Gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, Abundant in kindness, And did not forsake them.” (Nehemiah 9:17)
Again and again we read in the word descriptions of God as merciful, kind, loving, forgiving and trustworthy. How comforting to realize God is trustworthy—”able to be relied on, honest and truthful.” He is honorable and as good as His word. Our God is incorruptible, unimpeachable and eternally faithful! To know this—and to understand that repentance brings victory and gives us confidence—is marvelous! We can experience the kind of confidence that caused the apostle Paul to say, “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)
In an uncertain world, we can be certain of this: God does not change! He has magnified His word above all His name, and He watches over His word to perform it. “So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:11) John tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. … And the word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1&14)
Jesus is the Living Word! He is holy, incorruptible and trustworthy. He is peace in the middle of the storm and life in the face of death. There is no greater power. No greater Name! I will bow down toward Thy holy temple, And give thanks unto Thy name for Thy mercy and for Thy truth. For Thou hast magnified Thy Word above all Thy Name. (Psalm 138:2 Tanakh)
Our world has altered; spiritually and morally, we have undergone change to the extent of being almost unrecognizable. This change has created uncertainty and a strong sense of instability that has many worried and deeply concerned. Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29)
Our Lord is trustworthy. He is reliable, dependable, honest, honorable, true, incorruptible and unimpeachable. Today, rest in His trustworthy care.
